Heat/burning sensations

Empath

Holy cow, I did a little more research into awakening and the chakras.  Well that explains a lot that has been going on.  A couple of weeks ago, I was told that the knowledge I seek is available to me and that I just need to put out there that I desire it. The results have been amazing in terms of info from people here, being led to amazing books, etc.  And, I think when i first got her I posted about how crappy my sleep had been.  It's so much better now.  I still wake up, but just letting go of the anxiety surrounding it and repeating to myself that everything will be ok has been a game changer.  And, I have to think that the crystals in my room and the one I carry in my pocket have helped a lot.  I have so much gratitude right now.  I will enjoy soaking in this moment.

That was a super interesting article. Thank you!! So much going on. I have had times lately where I've felt overwhelmed or even sad or angry about it all, but yes, there was a shift on Tuesday to pretty much pure gratitude and excitement. Thank you again, all, for sharing and for your support.

Thanks @lotusfly! I think it could be both of those honestly.  I'm definitely developing/awakening lately in many areas.  I've always struggled being honest with people, so hopefully it is an indication that I will literally find my voice and be able to be honest when I need to.

Thanks @yugcub!  @hop-daddy, I think it is the throat chakra.  I could be wrong, but it makes sense given some other things.  Still waiting and seeing, but this is great info, thank you!!

Yugcub: Not saying I don't have a clear answer. I am saying that I have experienced those particular things.

Ah, sorry, my mistake in miscommunicating.  It is I who do not have a clear answer, lol.

I am definitely getting used to waiting and seeing.  I will just keep putting out the intention for understanding and to be guided to the right people and books to help me.

THANKS!!

Heat/burning sensations

Empath

Hi all, wasn't sure where to put this, so I decided here was best.  I am definitely on an exciting new journey since discovering the Empath thing.  I just read a book about past lives by Brian Weiss and am now reading another book about a chiropractor who it seems becomes an energy healer, among other things.

I just wondered if any of you ever get a burning - not painful - sensation in your bodies?  I've noticed it in my throat a few times.  It's not like a sore throat, it's not in the muscles and it's not irritated skin.  It's literally a heat sensation.  Someone close to me had thyroid cancer, so I've wondered if it's the connection with them, or something else.  Just curious what you all thought.

Negative feelings surrounding one particular person

Empath

Outside of this forum, I have been told that at some point, it is a thing where negative vibrations/energy can drag you down, and you may just have to just get away from them.  I guess it is complicated if and when it's a spouse and you have to sort through the commitment you made, etc.

In my religious background, suffering is pushed as a virtue.  I am starting to see how much this can be used to make people feel they must put up with not only straight out abuse, but also just bad situations.  It's just very complicated in the end.  I think wanting to be happy is not a bad thing.  In my case, I truly don't know what to do.  Sometimes I wonder if it's me, maybe I just expect too much or maybe I'd have the same issues with anyone.  I am trying not to think as much about it and take things more day by day and just tell myself that eventually I will have the answers and confidence in the right path.

Negative feelings surrounding one particular person

Empath

I have heard this idea of lifting someone to your higher vibration quite a lot lately.  It must mean I need to think more about this.  We do have fairly separate lives and he travels a lot for work. It works for us, although I am not sure how it will be going forward as our kids continue to get older.  But, I will stay in the moment and just do the best I can.  I am certainly working on me right now!  Thanks so much!!

Negative feelings surrounding one particular person

Empath

Piggybacking off of the relationship thread, has anyone struggled with and/or overcome extremely negative feelings about one particular person?  Not gonna lie, it's my spouse. I love him fiercely - like if someone threatened him or was mean to him, I would unhesitatingly spring to his defense.  However, our daily communication is terrible.  I constantly feel like he isn't listening to me, like he resents me, and is dishonest or just holds back his feelings.  The resentment is mainly for those two issues, that he is lying on a regular basis and that he also just wants me to be calm and happy so he can ignore me.  These are ongoing problems and my friend recently said 'why are you expecting anything different, it's always been this way.'  She is right.

So, any ideas for steps to reduce the negative feelings on my end.  Let's assume that he will not ever be changing.  I need to change.

Empath

Thank you again for sharing @hop-daddy.  I am interested to know what you mean when you say you bring down your loved ones.  What does that look like? As for the religion thing, I have always pushed the envelope,so on the one hand he is used to that, but on the other, he is not really interested either.

Also, why do you feel you've gotten more stressed?  THANKS!

@hop-daddy, I always appreciate your comments. I am sure you are right. I mean, yes, there are some issues, but I know I am very withdrawn right now. I am kind of overwhelmed with all I'm learning and he is not remotely interested. Yet, I am pretty sure he senses a big change and is slightly freaking out under the exterior.

I'm trying to stay in the moment, but I don't always do a good job. Sigh....

@jonig You hit the nail on the head. What even is an ideal relationship? I have no idea if it exists. I feel like I know less and less as time goes on lol. I feel like something is missing, but I also am wondering if I would always feel that way, regardless of who I was with. Do any of us really know what we are getting into when we get married? Sigh!

I actually do wish I had some local friends who believed as I did regarding being an Empath, etc. Has anyone ever tried a Meet Up, or some sort of church like the Spiritualists, to find people with common beliefs?

@jonig I have no advice to give, but I can say after almost 30yrs of marriage, it is really hard. I took the 'safe' route and as I have said above, we have a good life. However, rather than sister, I feel like Mother. Yes, I love him fiercely, but as you alluded to, it presents a major challenge for intimacy.

If anyone uses the Hoopla App, many of this author's books are available for free. I was recently advised to state my intention to have the right people and books to come across my path. This author has a lot of other books that seem really cool. I'll take this as a sign that I should listen to some of these books!!

The music thing

Arts

My first response never showed up. I have always been super sensitive to noises and smells. Music is probably in its own category. My parents actually forbid me to listen to any non religious music for all of high school. It truly was a dark time.

I have joked to my husband that maybe my hearing is just super sensitive. Unfortunately his is on the other end of the spectrum. ;-)

I was wondering if music that you dislike or music done poorly aggravates you? I was at an exercise class yesterday and she was used music that wasn't particular my favorite, just pop music, but the songs were all sped up way faster than the actual original versions. It bugged me so much that I doubt I will go back to her class. Extreme reaction?

@hop-daddy I love it. I have already been thinking about suggesting that my daughter put some in her cube at work. I could probably also put some in my husband's office. He travels a fair amount but works from home too.

I have finally remembered to take the black tourmaline with me for the past two days. I got one for my room and this one to carry around. I took it to Costco yesterday and I definitely noticed feeling light and relaxed when I walked out.

The woman that I bought the crystals from sent me an extra one as a gift. It's green, very pretty, an Amazonite. I decided to hold it towards the end of my meditation and it definitely radiated heat. T was too much to be just from holding it there and my other hand was normal. That was kind of cool!! I didn't notice anything w the tourmaline either. Assuming that I should sit that in the sun every few days if I am taking it all over with me?

Ok @hopdaddy, you will not be surprised that I randomly - ha - thought, let me check the forum and your response had been logged 37 seconds ago.

And, since you mentioned the stones... I put them by the bed and last night I got the best night's sleep I've had since I can remember. Maybe I found just the right combo? I had a good weekend and my overall outlook has been much more positive. I also, as I mentioned, spent time outdoors and did a fair amount of meditation. It sure felt great to wake up and realize that it was just getting light out and that it was not 12:30 or 3:30am, the times I typically wake up.

I am thankful for your detailed advice and for the support of everyone here. It has enabled me to shift - fairly quickly - to a more positive frame of mind.

Here's another question for you all... could I be connected to my oldest daughter in such a way that's I'm feeling some of her physical symptoms? This past week she twice mentioned that her face was itching and mine was as well at the exact same time. I also routinely get left shoulder pain and I think it could be linked to hers. I am 99.9% sure she's an Empath, but she's on her own path and I'm trying not to dump a lot of info on her because I think she needs more time to be able to accept it.

Thank you @cat-whisperer! It's actually very comforting to feel 'not alone.' I think I am going to feel much less guilty about saying no to gatherings and other things going forward.

@hopdaddy, re: rock salt. Is it literally just a bag of rock salt or is there a special type made for bathing? If I google it, it mostly ends up taking me to Himalayan salt. Just want to get this right!

@hopdaddy and @weary-soul

Thank you so much for your posts. They are super helpful and comforting.

Re: the crystals. They arrived after I got home that day, so I didn't have anything with me. I did let them sit out in the sun on Saturday, which hopefully cleansed them. I put the rose quartz, tourmaline and obsidian by my bed. I have one other tourmaline that I intend to try to carry around with me. I wish I had had it with me at her competition and the subsequent lunch!! I think I need to spend more time with them!

I have already had more periods of time where I can look back and see a lot of positives from being an Empath. I feel like I am luck to have this group and my counselor who actually know that this is a real thing and how to deal with it. I'm almost even feeling excited for the new path I'm on.

I need to work on the grounding techniques for sure. That's next up. Thank you again!!

Still trying to figure this out

Empath

I've always felt like a freak/outsider my whole life. I used to chalk it up to my parents actually being weird - they are fanantically religious and were unreasonably strict with me - but now, I wonder if it's also to do with being an Empath.

I'm also wondering, how do you tell if it's your own insecurities vs negative feelings from others. This is typical, but in my world of suburbia, I often deal with bitchy, jealous, competitive women. After my daughter's sporting event, we all went to lunch and by the time I left, I felt super negative and sad. I felt like an outsider, which I almost always do. Literally, there was one open seat in the long table and yes, it was next to me. I want to work on my own issues, but I also want to understand how being an Empath affects things. I had a long drive home afterwards and I tried to visualize the negativity going away and my daughter and I sang a lot and had fun. But the cloud was still there. I got home and immediately went on a run and again tried to visualize the negative energy flowing out of me. I do feel a bit better now.

If you've read this far, thank you. I am just curious how this works on a daily basis for you all. I don't want to feel like I'm at the mercy of these positive and negative energies from others. I want to see this as a gift.

Relationships....help!!

OK, wow, so at least I am not alone in this.  Your question was very interesting.  I am also on the older side, 51.  I dated two narcissists before I decided to marry my husband.  One is in jail for murdering his wife in the early 2000's.  I was briefly engaged to him, but something in me knew he was a liar, which was my main reason for walking away.

Anyway, I made a conscious decision to marry someone that I felt I could trust and that would be kind.  Was it the right decision?  I still wonder honestly.  He is still narcissistic in many ways, just uses passive aggressive behavior instead of having the temper and being outwardly cruel.  For example, I finally showed him the Empath info and he had almost no reaction, just, yeah, that's always been you.  But then later, in front of people that would never understand, he brought it up.  I was not happy and honestly I know he did it to make me feel uncomfortable, although he would deny it to his grave.

What you said, about feeling trapped and bored, yes, that is how I feel a lot, and then I feel guilty because we have a good life and great kids.  I have exactly said that I feel trapped and have been working on not repeating those words over and over because it causes me so much anxiety.  We have weathered some storms and have done a good job raising our kids and working together towards other things, like our financial goals, etc.  But, I still do not feel the passion that draws me to those other types.  I have already shared that I unfortunately have directed that all towards my current counselor - who is either unaware or too kind to confront me about it.  I know it's sort of pathetic, but he's the only one who is interested in this spiritual journey - until I met you all - and I love talking about it all with him.  I've known him for well over ten years now and we were raised the same way and have both developed in interest in less traditional spirituality and alternative medicine like energy medicine.  Anyway, I am now hijacking your thread, but I guess I want to share with you that your concerns are not silly at all.  It is a hard decision and neither path is easy.  Maybe that is the only thing I've learned.  Would it have been better to marry someone that I felt intensely passionate for?  I really don't know if the downsides would've ruined that in the end.

Good luck and hang in there.  As you can see, most of us are just trying to figure it all out still, even as we get older and older!

Sounds like a lot of us have issues with sleep deprivation or poor sleep. Count me in. Just curious what has helped you all. I am currently trying to do energy exercises daily. I take magnesium at night and four drops of Rescue Remedy, which may just be a placebo but I don't care. I've tried drinking a tea that is supposed to help as well as apple cider vinegar - which is horrid. I also have Valium, but I just don't want to use it that much for lots of reasons. I am also trying to do daily meditation.

I cannot deny that as the evening nears, I start feeling more anxious. I just don't seem to be able to find anything that really helps. Sometimes when I wake up, I play a game on my phone until I get drowsy again or listen to a boring podcast.
