This may not be accurate at all but I did a quick Google search and found Isaiah, the 8th century BCE Jewish prophet who gave his name to the Book of Isaiah. Then his cousin, Uzziah, also known as Azariah, was a king of the ancient Kingdom of Judah, and one of Amaziah's sons. Uzziah was 16 when he became king of Judah and reigned for 52 years. Not sure if you might be connected with this family at all.. Also all their names sound similar haha

I do this....sometimes.

Empath

Thanks for sharing this article! I almost feel as though being around fake people makes me act fake as well...like I am forcing myself to be congruent with them. I like to minimize as much dissonance as possible in my encounters with most people....that probably makes me inauthentic but I can't help it. :(

Professions for Empaths

Healers

Anyone else working in the field of social work? I know it sounds like a bad idea for someone as sensitive as us to go into this industry but I feel like it's my calling. Anyone relate to this experience? I would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks!

Empaths and Religious Life

New Age

Has your experience in religious life been helpful or detrimental?

I consider myself more spiritual than religious though I was raised in a semi strict Muslim household. I have worked for the chaplain at my college and the office of religious and spiritual life for a year now. I don't know where I stand as I've been in some type of crisis/journey ever since I've started college but...I'm wondering how religion or spirituality enriches your life as an empath. (Also comment if you have experienced the opposite!)

Too embarrassed to apologize?

Empath

Ok I'm speaking under the assumption that no one on here enjoys confrontation (maybe I"m wrong) but does anyone else struggle with saying sorry?! Pretty much what happened was in all my social anxiety and nervousness, I misspoke and accidentally took credit for something I didn't mean to. I know I offended my boss while at a dinner meeting and she kind of pointed it out (in front of the president of the organization) but I felt too guilty and embarrassed to even own up to it later! I have a big fear about it. Help?!

How many of you Empaths are ticklish? Just wondering?

Empath

I am SO TICKLISH, I can even tickle myself! I'm also sensitive to a lot of things in my environment. I have allergies and easily become motion sick. I think there is a correlation between these!

Exhaustion

Empath

I was having the same thought as you today actually. I saw the article about being able to turn off your empathy. I still haven't managed to actually learn how to do this. I agree with you in that growing up I felt like I never had the same level of energy as others. For instance, in middle and high school, I couldn't wrap my head around the fact that people could put in an 8 hour school day and then play a sport for 2 more hours. I felt so lazy/inactive but it never felt feasible or physically possible. (I am able-bodies and I did end up managing the lacrosse team.) I know this comment probably isn't much of any help other than knowing that I'm right there with you! And I'm also here wondering how others deal with fatigue. I tried taking vitamin D3 which did nothing to boost my energy, but I know being in sunlight for extended periods of time/living in sunny places has been proven to improve energy levels (esp. in people with SAD). Do you take multivitamins and have any vitamins had an effect on you? Certain medications (antidepressants, hormone therapy, birth control, etc.) can create a fatigue effect on you. I'm not a medical professional but sometimes getting blood work done helps rule out factors like anemia, etc. (even just to put you at ease, mentally). I just try to make sure I get as much sleep as possible every night, which does not happen most of the time, as a college student. If I'm tired during the day, I try to nap. I try not to take my body's "tired" cues for granted. It also might help to keep a log of what tasks you feel more fatigued during and after. For example, is the feeling specific to working with computers, driving or riding cars, being in other modes of transit, taking care of children, being around adults..? And that's a great point you bring up about the healing and spiritual causes. You probably know yourself best about what your brain and body are processing as of now!
