Do other people's emotions have a different "vibe" to you?

Empath

Hi Joan Marie,

Funny, the voices in my head actually do sound different! That's how I've been able to distinguish when my guide was talking to me because it wasn't my voice.

Do other people's emotions have a different "vibe" to you?

Empath

Hi Alesia,

Yes, that makes total sense! I can do that, but only if it's something really extreme. There was an incident a few years ago that helped me to realize I was an empath. I felt like quitting my job out of the blue, with tremendous rage. I loved my job back then, so it seemed really odd. I think I've been justifying all these emotions for so long, it's become a habit.

Empath

I've been having a lot of trouble distinguishing which emotions are my own, and which ones aren't. They don't seem to have a "vibe" attached to them. Is there any way to tell who they're coming from? Or even mine vs. not mine??

Hi Alesia!

Too cool, your process sounds very similar to the way I discovered I could do past life readings!! I've been doing them for over 10 years now, and it's become almost second nature to me, so I forget sometimes that way-back-when I couldn't do them at all! I have a method of asking people questions that's very effective in allowing people to access past lives, and I did it with a friend of mine. He remembered a life we'd shared in Paris, and I just about drove him nuts trying to get more info/details out of him cause I couldn't see them at the time!

A lot of mine start off with a clue, exactly like what you described, something that jumps out at you, especially if it's incongruent with this life. It can be anything, an emotion, a scar, a way of dressing, a particular interest in period clothing, architecture, litterally anything. Then, I get a quick flash of a scene in my mind's eye. The flash is easily ignored, and if I don't pay attention to it, it just disappears. If I choose to focus on it, and let it expand, (I call it "following"), then it becomes a story. When the story stops flowing, I ask myself questions about the info I got so far, or try to note any details about clothing, buildings, anything about the scene that I kind of take for granted because I'm SEEING it. When I first started doing it, I had to suspend all judgement about the info I was getting because that stops the flow. I couldn't allow myself to think about whether or not what I was seeing was accurate, I just had to accept it. That, and taking the plunge & doing practice readings for people are the 2 things that helped me develop this ability the most. In the beginning, I got really good feedback from the people, just like you said. People just had a way of recognizing what I told them to be true, and often had had dreams about the same thing. That was very encourageing, and still something I love getting (it's like my reward for doing it!), but I was TERRIFIED to do any research on them in case it turned out to be unsubstantiated. However, I did a reading for a friend who was a king, and she did the research (without telling me!). Turned out she found the guy, and he had 2 daughters, who had the exact same names as her own 2 daughters! How freaky is that? Now, I'm 180 degrees on the subject, I can't wait to do research, wish I could do more. I have zero skills at it, other than google. Mind you, I have found very interesting evidence just from the internet alone. I don't get names, usually I get places, but sometime they can be vague. I pick out any detail that I might find. For instance, I had a past life in Paris around the turn of the century, and I was killed in a shower. Well, I didn't even know if showers existed back then, whether or not they were common, etc. So, I did some research, and it turns out they just started gaining popularity around that time, so that was a nice confirmation.

I've done others, too, that focused on some detail from the reading, like a job that I didn't know existed, or some detail about a specific place, like, one of my lives I was born in the mountains in Spain, and I could see it was a farming village, but there was a very communal feeling about it, and I actually found a place fitting that exact description.

Sorry this is so long (it only took me 3 days to write it! ;) but I hope that helps you in some way. I can't meditate either. When I do these readings is the closest I get to meditating because it somehow allows me to quiet myself so I can listen to the story.

Hi Amy,I have a friend who's an empath, and she feels the same way about flying. In the book Destiny of Souls, the author says people who feel this way may have had past lives on another planet where you can fly! I used to have a LOT of dreams about being able to breathe under water, and I wonder if it's the same deal.

What does your spirit guide look like?

Psychic and Paranormal

Well, he's a quiet ghost anyway! I've never seen or sensed him. Is there any way you could tell me something about the ghosts in a house I used to live in when I first moved to Nova Scotia? It belonged to my ex's brother. I belive there were 3 ~ a man, a woman, and a child. They were very active, turning lights on & off, faucets, lots of phantom smells. I know they were not harmful, but I've always been curious about them.

Hi Bruce,This reminds me of Shamanic journeying. The Celtic version uses a tree as an entrance into the lower realm of non-ordinary reality. Maybe they have a special vibration that makes it easier to go into a trance or something. I've always loved communicating with trees. They are so wise & have so much to share. =)

Makes sense to me. I have had similar experiences. I knew my boyfriend was cheating on my once because I was listening to Alanis Morisette's infamous ex-bashing song and the lyrics got me more emotional than usual. And then I just knew. Sometimes objects will look glowing to me if I'm supposed to use them or buy them or something. I've noticed lately when I think about a situation, often a song pops in my head, and I think it's my spirit guide's way of trying to communicate with me!

Empath

Yup, me too. I hate being taken advantage of, but I hate living with the regret of having handled a confrontation badly even worse! So, I made a decision to err on the side of caution. I vowed not to enter into a confrontation unless I feel grounded & centered in myself, and not reactionary.

How do you hear your guides/angels?

Psychic and Paranormal

I was thinking another way my spirit guide communicates is through songs, either on the radio or ones that get stuck in my head. I had a friend whose father passed away while we were working together. Every day she'd hear a song on the radio that she said was a sign from her dad. I was skeptical, so she said she'd ask him to send me a song to prove it. The next day, I heard a song on the radio that was so clearly a sign, it was unbelievable. It's a song that I've never heard on the radio before, the band yes, but not that particular song. At the time, I was dealing with my ex who had emailed me & told me our beloved cat had died. It hit me pretty hard. He was a big fan of this band, too. Here's the lyrics:Woke up this morningMy dog was deadSomeone disliked himAnd shot him through the headI woke up this morningAnd my cat had diedI'm gonna miss herSat down and criedCame home this eveningMy hog was goneThe people here don't like me[ Find more Lyrics on http://mp3lyrics.org/ahN ]I think I'll soon move onAnd now somethin's happenedThat would make a saint frownI turned my back andMy house burned downWoke up this morningMy dog was deadSomeone disliked himAnd shot him through the headI woke up this morningAnd my cat had diedDon't you know I'mgonna miss herSat down and criedWhen I heard it, I just KNEW it was the sign she'd asked for!

Empath

Hi Jonny,Yes, there are definitely differences in the way empaths pick up emotions. I tend to feel things strongest when people are least aware of it, or things they're trying not to feel. Those ones practically scream at me, and I have a hard time believing the person can't feel it because it's SO obvious to me.

Confusing empathy/telepathy with spiritual guidance

Psychic and Paranormal

It has dawned on me recently that this is a huge factor in why I was unable to trust the "guidance" I was being given. I've been confusing it with empathically channelling thoughts or emotions. It totally makes sense to me now why I couldn't trust my spirit guide's advice. Something inside me knew it wasn't quite right, but unfortunately, my only way to deal with it was to throw out the baby with the bath water!! I knew I couldn't trust everything I was getting, but I didn't know where it was coming from at the time, so I had to block everything until I had the answer I needed. Like, when I first got together with my ex, for the first month we lived together, I constantly felt like I wanted to break up with him. It's a little confusing because I DID want to break up with him, but I realize now what I thought was spirit guidance making me feel that way was actually HIM thinking I was going to break up with him. It wasn't safe to trust my guidance because anyone (or any kind of negative force or entity) would've been able to influence me. I always felt so negative about the situation, blaming myself for being unable to connect like I *should* when in reality I was being very smart about it!!!! It just wasn't safe!!!!

How do you hear your guides/angels?

Psychic and Paranormal

Something I realized recently is that my spirit guide will try to guide me towards things by attraction & things I'm supposed to look at have a glow about them. Like, they look brighter than the things around them. This happens a lot with books. One instance in particular that I remember I was wandering around a library, and I was drawn to a particular section. When I looked up, this one book seemed to stand out. When I reached for it, it practically jumped off the shelf! No kidding, either. It was like my hand became magnetic for a minute. I always knew this was some sort of guidance, I just never realized it was probably coming from my spirit guide!

How do you hear your guides/angels?

Psychic and Paranormal

Hi Soulful,I asked this question not only to find answers for myself, but in the hopes that others might find a nugget of recognition too. Knowing your spirit guide doesn't have a direct link to being an empath. I've been struggling to contact mine for 20 years, and my communication with him is extremely limited. I have a lot of fears around it too. Some people connect easily, others don't. Come to think of it, I don't even know what my fears are!! I guess my strongest fear is that I might not want to follow my spirit guide's advice, and I feel like I have to. If I can communicate with him directly, that would leave no room for misinterpretation. Hmmmm.... interesting! No wonder my guide has only been able to send me pictures & feelings & other roundabout things.Do you know what you're afraid of?

Empaths and Memory Function -- Just curious

Empath

Absolutely, I have this too! I have a really good short-term memory, but after 4-6 months, things fade into 'gists'. It's embarassing when I try to explain something I've read or heard, but I can't remember the details, only the impact it had on me. It's so clear in my own mind, though. Wow! I didn't know there were others who just 'knew'! I feel like I was born knowing I had been here before. It's something I never talked about with my family (who are basically non-practicing Christians) because I didn't feel the need. I just accepted it as fact. I didn't start remembering my own past lives until I was in my 20's, but I had read a few books about it, and I looked at my life for clues. I knew I'd been a spanish dancer because we had a picture of one in our basement as a kid, and I would sit & stare at it for hours.

Angel/Guide Feng Shui tip for students

Psychic and Paranormal

I got this from my daily Feng Shui email from Astrology.com :

"Time to take on the world, 2010 graduate, and hearty, happy congratulations as you do just that! It's long been acknowledged from the Feng Shui philosophy that I follow that if you want to bring your angels and guides out of student housing and along for the next opportunity-laden ride of your life, then you should find some symbolic statue on campus (they're there, believe me!) and, at any time immediately prior to graduation day, rub the nose of this same symbol! This single act is said to bring lots of luck and big fortunes, as well as also being able to make your futuristic dreams come true. It's also said that a little statuesque nose rub will not only help bring invisible aid and assistance to your commencement ceremonies but will keep those same energies circling all around you as you march out into the big, wide world. That's right graduate -- to infinity and beyond. The sky's the limit now! Did you hear me? And would you do me a favor? Holla at Buzz and Woody for me while you're up there! "

How do you hear your guides/angels?

Psychic and Paranormal

Do you hear them? Do you see them? Do you feel them? Do you even know it's them talking and not your "imagination" (as my parents used to say)? If so, how do you distinguish them from all the other thoughts?

I'm really curious because I believe my spirit guide(s) speak to me, but usually I can only recognize it in retrospect.

Which came first, the chicken or the egg?

Empath

I find myself in a lot of these types of discussions, but anyway, in relation to emotions ~ I tend to blame myself for a lot of the emotions I pick up from people. Then I remembered something I've heard many times about young children with psychic premonitions ~ they often think they caused the events! Itcan take them years to realize it's not their fault, and that they can't prevent the things they see from happening. I was wondering if it's the same for empaths? I tend to bring up people's emotional issues just by being around them, but I don't know if it's something I'm doing(even subconsciously), or just the way I was made because I feel I'm destined to become a therapist (in which case that would be a useful ability.) Any thoughts??

Hi Claire,That's very cool. I met my animal guide during a Shamanic journey (similar to a meditation) many years ago. The first thing he showed me was how we used to sort of hang out together when I was a child. It all felt very familiar to me.I know what you mean that these things are kind of used interchangeably, but from what I understand, you're born with 1 of each, guardian angel (spirits who've never incarnated), spirit guide (a spirit who has incarnated at least once), and an animal totem. They are with you your whole life, but there are also other spirits who can come into your life as helpers along the way. They usually fulfill more specific roles, such as protection, guidance, or teaching. It sounds like you really have a good sense of yours already! If you're falling asleep during the meditation, it's possible you're just not ready for that step. Or your guide wants you to do it another way...? I don't know, I'm just speculating.

EMPATH INTERRUPTED

Empath

Hi Roxy,Powerful stuff! I had a similar experience as a child."... what makes you think you're so special. "Ouch! I actually flinched when I read that. My head says different things, like "It's just your imagination", but I also learned to avert my abilities to discern the truth because I was fed so many lies by the people who were supposed to be telling me the truth. Whether they thought they were telling me the truth or not, I don't know, but it forced me to give up the truth I knew, and instead rely on what people say, which we all know is shady at best.My psychic gifts were returned to me when I had a soul retrieval done over 15 years ago. About 10 years ago, I started doing past life readings for people via the internet. To this day, I get nervous hitting that reply button. The only readings I'm confident about are the ones that just happen as I'm talking to someone or reading about someone. The "on demand" ones make me the most nervous.

Essential oil sprays that I'm in love with

Empath

I posted about a smokeless smudge spray awhile back because that was the only one in the line of sprays that I bought. I recently purchased the whole set of sprays & drops, and I just wanted to let everyone know about them because theyr'e awesome!!

http://www.soulrestore.com/products/soul_sprays

These are made by a friend of mine in Calgary who does shamanic work, and is also an empath. The smudge spray is great, but my new best friend is the SELF spray. It's so soothing & calming, it really helps to clear out other people's energy instantly. I know that's a problem for many empaths. So, just thought I'd share! :) It's really great stuff, and it smells lovely. I have a set of the drops as well (similar to Bach Flower remedies), but I haven't really experiemented with them yet. I've been too addicted to the sprays.

How do I know your feelings from my own?

Empath

"she said that if I were centered, I would know the difference. "Yes, and no. When you've been thinking your whole life that everything you think & feel is yours, only to discover that's not the case, it's going to take some time to figure out what the heck is going on. Quite a long time. I like the excercise where you practice focusing on things you like, then when thoughts or feelings enter your mind, ask yourself how you feel about it? This is very helpful for me because I can often determine something's not mine if it opposes what I generally know to be true about myself. Like, one day at work I was really angry, and I thought, "If I'm this unhappy in my job, I should just quit!" But, then I realized I love my job 90% of the time, and have no desire to quit! So, it had to belong to someone else.

I just thought of something else ~ for someone who specializes in finding missing children, it's probably good for them to charge a higher fee because it would make their waiting list shorter. helping transitioning souls pass from this world

Empath

This is from Astrology.com, I get the Feng Shui Tip of the day, and it's usually interesting, but I thought this one was very poignant and interesting, so I thought I'd share!

Hi Astro Fan! Here is your Daily Feng Shui Tip for Wednesday, March 10
Had he lived, today would have been my friend Richard's 50th birthday. Richard died of AIDS a very long time ago in what to me almost feels like another lifetime. Back in the day being diagnosed with AIDS was essentially a death sentence; there simply weren't options available for keeping the disease in check or at bay. Here in the West, we now have protease inhibitors and AIDS cocktails aimed at allowing anyone diagnosed to hopefully live out their lives until their natural end of days. That said, the scourge of this disease is still decimating cultures and countries around the world and so I pray for a cure. Soon! And I will say that I still miss Richard all the time and wish that I had known then what I know now about helping transitioning souls pass from this world into the next as I was watching him die. According to certain Buddhist teachings, using orange light bulbs around the room of a dying person can help their essence or their vital energies separate from the physical body in a graceful manner. Sandalwood incense or even a few drops of that same true essential oil diffused throughout a space by being added to a bowl of steaming water can also help accomplish that intention. Harp music has been known to bring the breathing of one soon to transition into a metronome-like sync with the music as well as to keep time with the beating of the heart, all aimed at alleviating panic or anxiousness associated with these events. Yes, I wish I had known then what I have just shared with all of you now. But my most sincere, heartfelt and fervent prayers for a cure remain the same. And, to all of you helping a loved one to transition, you have my prayers and my sincerest sympathies as well. You will have them always, as Richard does my love. Happy Birthday dear friend.

Hi Pat!I see what you're saying. Like, when I think of "God", I picture a long-bearded man in a white robe in the sky who's kind of stern. But, when I think of the "Great Spirit" that native north Americans talk about, I have this all-encompassing feeling of peace & well-being. Yet, I believe they're the same being. Cherubs seem like angels with less of a sense of duty, an extra component of child-likeness, which is a quality in myself I really value. It feels less structured, more playful.

Thanks, Nancy! I did a google search after posting this only to find out that Cherubs aren't actually those cute little cuddly creatures we think they are. *Technically* (I guess) they're called Putto/Putti. Personally, I think this is mincing words a bit, but hey. Here is the description I got from Wikipedia:"Cherubs are described as winged beings. The biblical prophet Ezekiel describes the cherubim as a tetrad of living creatures, each having four faces: of a lion, an ox, an eagle, and a man. They are said to have the stature and hands of a man, the feet of a calf, and four wings. Two of the wings extended upward, meeting above and sustaining the throne of God; while the other two stretched downward and covered the creatures themselves."However, I'M talking about the cute, cuddly, little chubby winged babies & toddlers. I refuse to call them Putti because that word has negative connotations for me, and I love the name Cherub. So there, wikipedia!! LOL!!!
