I've just discovered the possibility that I might be an empath. I have been ignoring my feelings for a while, thinking it was something other than what it is. Ineed pointers on how to concentrate on my ability, and be open instead of being closed off with my defensive wall into place. So anybody have any suggestions?

Yes, shielding is wonderful but puts us in a defensive position. My own favorite exercise is contained in Thriving As An Empath and it is more proactive. A lot of people have found it very effective.
