I feel like I gave up on life after 9/11. I'm just existing, trying to find a reason to go forward. On that day I felt like all New Yorkers were my neighbors and friends (I've never even been there). I felt like we lived in a third-world country all of a sudden. I stopped wanting marriage and children. I stopped pretty much wanting anything, and 13 years later the feeling still persists.

It seems You've internalized the fear/pain of many people had about losing someone they love. You don't want to ever know that yourself. Basically you empathised with "loss" and now don't want to lose anything. It persists because you lost a little hope in humanity that day.Think about the good in yourself, the good in people you know. Sit & and reflect on times you felt good, you may find yourself doing and seeking things to recapture that. Passion for life. H.t.h. :)

Thanks for the encouraging words. I try to find positive things to think about, but it all happened so fast that day, it overwhelmed me.
