...Know anyone like this?

~The Narcissist~
I'm so wonderful,
I'm so fine.
If you only knew,
This perfection of mine.

Likely you'd be overwhelmed,
My brilliance so great,
To ever second guess me
Would be a fatal mistake.

My body is a fine machine,
I'm probably immortal.
Compared to the rest of you,
I make you look primordial.

Some call me a narcissist--
And maybe its true.
All I will say, jealous ones--
Don't you wish you were one, too?!

Or a megalomaniac,
Some venture to imply.
Of course, I'm mega-everything,
Is my clever reply.

I'm so wonderful,
I'm so fine.
If only you could fathom
This brilliance of mine.

My glory shines like the morning sun.
I'm sure it can be blinding.
My splendor deserves subservience--
It should need no reminding.

My wonders shine from coast to coast.
My actions have cosmic significance.
Isn't anyone wise enough,
To appreciate magnificence?

My friends are high society,
Rich, beautiful, successful--
But I really don't like anyone,
All people are distasteful.

Some call me a narcissist--
And maybe its true.
All I will say, stupid ones -
Too bad you aren't one, too!

Thanks so much! I've had an unfortunate history with some people like this.

Oh yes. I am referring to men. I was married to one and have one relative that way. Thanks for the sympathy! They really are sad creatures. On the exterior they are like the poem, but inside they really do not like themselves at all. Still, they are difficult to endure. I probably should have added a verse of sympathy for them but at the time I wasn't feeling it!

That would be too cool! Sure, go right ahead. I will check out the Music Group. Now I'm all excited :) I've been trying to put together enough poems for an small self-published book, but I keep wondering if they are good enough to bother. It is really great to get a little positive reinforcement.

This is a nice poem. I was friends with one. Ended the relationship when I mentioned the word narcissism and they did not like it! Truth hurts I guess....

Good luck with them. As long as they don't live with you I hope you'll be okay. They will kill your soul.

Ecila,

You already know my FIL was one and my BIL is one (and worse), so I could really relate. It's hard to put feelings about them down on paper, since they arouse such animosity inside me. It's a real accomplishment that you were able to do it. Nice to finally read some of your poetry. :-)

GenX-Em,

Ditto what Ecila says. It only takes one narcissist to destroy an entire family and a marriage. Unfortunately, I know what I am talking about first hand. Blessings.....

Thanks Cat! Sometimes it helps me to organize my rampant thoughts this way... when I can manage it.
